CWA, America's largest communications and media union, represents over 740,000 men and women in both private and public sectors, including over half a million workers who are building the Information Highway. Our members are employed in telecommunications, broadcasting, cable TV, journalism, publishing, electronics, manufacturing, airline customer service, government service, health care, education and other fields.
We have 1,200 local unions across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico with members living in 10,000 communities, making CWA one of the nation's most geographically diverse unions. CWA also holds over 2,000 collective bargaining agreements for its members, many of which include innovative training and education programs and child and family care provisions that are considered pace-setting for labor in the modern workplace.
Major employers of CWA members include AT&T, GTE, Lucent Technologies, General Electric, NBC, ABC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, US Airways, the University of California, the state of New Jersey and many regional telephone companies.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CWA also maintains district headquarters in New York City, Philadelphia, Silver Spring, Md., Atlanta, Cleveland, Austin, Denver and San Francisco and is affiliated with the AFL-CIO, the Canadian Labor Congress, and the worldwide Union Network International.
